I have a desk job, and I have to say, the men at my job are complete kissasses. To be clear, I don't mean being respectful. The three other men working here kiss serious ass. They go above and beyond for all the female employees, always on their beck and call, even if their position is over them. One guy in particular talks more than any of the women, asking about her coffee and bs like that. You would swear this guy plays for the other team, but he has a wife and kids.
In the first month of my employment, the women here understood I would keep it respectful but I wouldn't kiss their asses. I quickly lost their interest. Prospects of moving up gone, all their goodwill gone. It kinda sickens me how the men here act, since in the end, they accept this sort of treatment.
Tell me, is this normal? Is this how I have to act to move up in the corporate world? its like Im living in another dimension.

Yes, corporate world is like that. Either you do your job so well that you can say fuck it to all their little games (they can't fire you, but you won't be at the top of the promotion list either), or you choose to play the political game to move up. Your call.
In your case, it sounds like the guy is just simping to get some action. Since he's already higher in position, there's no need for brown nosing his subordinates

The corporate world is full of ass kissers and cutthroats. Like you, I find it to be quite ridiculous. I found the best way to move up is to 1. Know your shit, and 2. buddy up with your managers. The first one will keep the cutthroats from sticking a knife in your back, and the second one will keep the kiss asses in the back where they belong.
What I mean by #2 is treat them like you value their knowledge and try to learn what you can from them. Go to them for advice. I used to go up to my superiors and say, "Show me how to be a supervisor." or "Show me how to be a manager." I moved up the ranks quite quickly.
Eventually, I got tired of the corporate rat race and changed course. But when I left the company, I walked out with some stellar recommendations.

I went to work for the government while earning my Bachelor in I.T. I do programming projects on the side. I have 1 more year and I become eligible for government pension. After that, I'm going to open a computer build and repair shop. I have an interest in woodworking. Might learn how to make furniture and stuff when I retire. I love building stuff.
