Body: I found this test while just looking up the subject of the "Dark Triad" personality traits aka narcissism, psychopathy, and machiavellianism. This is an online version of a test that was published in 2011 by Delroy Paulhus and Daniel Jones. At the end you get your results, and I tried to answer everything as truthfully and quickly as possible, but from what I can tell from my results I scored higher in machiavellianism than anyone else who has taken the test. So believe me or not, due to the nature of machiavellianism itself I can see why you would have great reason not to, but it's still an interesting test all the same.

Lessons learned: Self assessment is a useful tool and data seem to suggest I may be Machiavelli reincarnate.

I think everyone here is pretty shit at realizing I was making a little joke at the end. It's just a fun test to take on a Saturday. Reading into what the questions are asking you is more informative than the questions themselves.

I had the Rorschach administered to me a few months ago. That shit was spot on for the most part. This shows me as low in everything, but it's not exactly something you can take stock in. I tend to either arouse or terrify my female shrinks, they don't hide body language very well. I do however offend nearly all of them.

Seriously, you fucking idiots. You DO NOT want to be a Dark Triad. They lead absolutely miserable lives. Whatever you think you want to be is probably 1 of the 3, but not completely Dark Triad. Very few of you have met one, and so you don't know what you're even shooting for.

Quite true, unless you're well above average intellect, those traits will fuck you. Even then it still fucks you, but not as severely.

It's not something you achieve, it's traits you're born with or that have been drilled into you by living a shitty life starting very young.

The shit required to turn you into that isn't enjoyable in the least. It must be heinous enough to remove any compassion you have for other people. You can turn it around and utilize it, but it's a herculean task to do so. So many other things come with it, dysthymia, ptsd, paranoia, aggressive behavior that can really fuck up your life, among others. Dissociative might be the worst co-morbid disorder next to outright psychopathy. Serial killers are made by this method.

Severe abuse and neglect in childhood does it effectively, trust me, nobody wants to be that way.

And, in a way, a lot of this red pill stuff, as far as picking up women goes, is aping the behavior of actual dark triads.

It's been long know that men with strong dark triad traits are regarded as more sexually attractive by women.

Edit to add: I'd argue that one can't try to score high on the dark triad. That's why so many men fail at game; they simply don't have the qualities that enable someone to truly not give a fuck. They hit a moral wall.

That's what people here THINK. I know it's wrong because they see people like Frank Underwood as Dark Triad. Again, these are about 1% of society. I've met one person that once I read the DT thing it hit me like bricks. He's so fucked in the head that I would be afraid to tell him that he's DT (though he most likely knows it.)

He showers you with compliments when he meets you. He curses people out if they say "maybe" to an invitation. He wrote a 3-part autobiography (yes, full books) though he's a random 30 y o that lives at home with no prior writing experience. He never keeps friends, or partners for more than like a year at a time. He claims he's going to kill himself every year. Multiple restraining orders. and one thing...

ABSOLUTELY OUTCOME DEPENDENT

The people mentioned are ONE of the traits, but they're not all. This is like aspiring to get aspergers. You guys simply don't get it, and won't get it until you meet one.

Also, no. If you're around a DT, you'll feel amazing until they flip, and curse you out, but then you might have to get a restraining order, but once they're out of your life, you'll should fine.

Seems like everyone here has decided they generally hate the post I made, but I don't give a flying fuck and it wouldn't be the first time on reddit. I've been on reddit for quite a while and I've gotten bored of it so sometimes I make posts that bait people into reacting a certain way or just to see what the reaction of others will be purely out of curiosity. So even if you hated this post, it's been informative to me all the same. As far as wanting to possess the dark triad traits, I don't really have a choice. Right now in my life the fog of 5+ years of what could easily be described as severe depression is lifting and I'm trying my best to take advantage of the situation. I don't want to possess these traits as much as they've been infused into my personality and I've been left to deal with them as best I can without any instruction or guidance. Many times I've reached out to others but have never found their mindset similar enough to mine for them to be able to properly empathize with my challenges. This is why I posted the topic here, to share something I found interesting with a similarly minded group of individuals to gauge and study their reactions.

The dark triad traits are useful tools but they will turn on you easily if you cannot control them properly and use them to your advantage. Narcissism will help you project self confidence, but spread it on too thick or let it loose, and everyone just thinks you're a self absorbed asshole. Psychopathy is useful to keep an air of suspense, randomness, and uncertainty around you. But if you don't know how to use it or how well you can control it then the results can quickly turn sour and you could be painted as someone you don't want to be. I think machiavellianism is by far the most important of the traits as it gives you the ability to control the other two. A well constructed lie is useless without the conviction necessary to sell it. A maniacal idea can be suicidal without the proper tact, timing, and skill to properly pull it off. And trying to be cunning and deceitful as a means to your own success is worthless without the ability to veil your true intentions or sell your fake ones.

So no you don't want to have traits associated with the dark triad, but if you find it's become infused into your very personality then you have 3 options: Ignore them, fight them, or embrace them.

With how you describe it as something you can use and redirect, I can tell you're not DT. You may have traits, but...who doesn't? Also the test is BS because we all know HOW to answer the questions, and we're going to put that rather than how we actually act. It's like "Should you break frame?" of course not, so we all answer that you shouldn't, but we still would.

Narcissism will help you project self confidence - I don't think you understand narcissism at all.

Your self-diagnoses of all these are from the perspective of someone who wants to have them. It's like the psychology student that thinks they have whatever mental disorder they're currently studying.

I just fundamentally disagree with you. From your perspective it might seem like I don't know what I'm talking about, but from my perspective it seems like you don't know what your talking about either. I don't want to be some dark triad nutcase but I've been dealt some pretty horrific and unforgiving personality traits. Why would you assume that absolutely everyone discussing the subject doesnt actually want these traits or doesn't posses them? Thats an insane assumption to make and push upon others when you have no evidence to support it. How can you be sure of what other people are and how they want to be when you have no real insight into their real life? You say I don't understand narcissism, but I'm pretty sure believing you are right and everyone else is wrong, telling people they are automatically wrong about assessments theyve made about themselves, and that they can only be properly categorized or assessed based on your own definitions is extremely narcissistic.

What I'm saying isn't exactly "you're wrong because you want to be DT" I'm saying "You're wrong because a DT isn't like this" do you really believe you're part of the 1% of DTs because you ONE of three traits? I mean shit, if you're DT you should have noticed how weak your argument of "You're a narcissist so that makes everything you say irrelevant" is ridiculously inefficient. Your language, your point of view. You're here posting about how this, and how that you are, a DT would NOT do that... It's really that simple. You said yourself you use the elementary study point of "say something incorrect so they correct you", but when you dig that hole; You don't know how to climb out of it. Your form of argument isn't DT, your posting of your DT traits isn't DT. Maybe your machiavellian score is high, but you're just miles away from DT, and it's obvious to anyone that's ever witnessed one.

I just actually took the test...jeez it was so shallow on all levels. The "Machiavellian" questions were like "Would you manipulate people" where people who don't understand chain-reactions would be like...yea, but if you were really machiavellian you would understand that on a second level, being someone isn't trying to manipulate a situation would leave you better off. If you think this test is valid you can't be DT because...you would know better.

Yes the test questions are ridiculously shallow but I said elsewhere in the thread that its just fot fun and should be taken with a big grain of salt. But I figure by posting my results like this in a sub full of people with an alpha male mentality it would be a better way to get a response than by just asking a question about the dark triad or one of the 3 specific traits.

I couldn't care less if you appreciate it or not, or what you think of my actions or intentions. I also dont know why you've crowned yourself as an authority on the subject of the Dark Triad, because you've met a few people with a dark life and history? Why would you assume to know anything about another person on the internet? Why would you think that they will act according to your moral code and value things the same way you do? These are all hypothetical questions, answer them if you want I don't give a shit. It will just be more of your own opinions that so far have been completely devoid of evidence and full of assumptions.
