It's not true self-esteem. It's more like a caricature of self-esteem from a feminine perspective. The caricature has become the norm. I see it all the time, the unreasonable notions of what makes you a good woman are no less aggressively propagated than what was traditionally done among "macho" men.

I love this article

That's a really interesting article.
The concept of male privilege maybe the root of this line of thought - and it's rather obvious, if I conceive that there is another party that has a natural benefit for being born the 'other gender' than my own, it's obvious that I would try to form the same conception for myself.
I think something similar has been happening within the gay community for the last years - but this is a story for another moment.
What I would like to ask is to directly question his argument:
Can you guys quote situations where that clearly has happened? I mean, I can't recall situations in the media where being a women would grant some sort of perk or benefit.

Oh, it's not that I don't believe in conjuncture, but I'd like to check in mainstream music, sitcoms and movies to see if this can be really be noticed in various aspects of society.
I think Dharma and Greg was a good example of this, a sitcom where the male character was completely submissive to a female.
The examples you give seem to me much more about dumb people than a on going trend, but I'm starting to believe that this trend is happening in various situations.
Oh yeah! I can remember one!
There's a Robot Chicken sketch where a little girl gets a Barbie Racecar and decided to become a racer herself. If I find a video link I'll post later.
