The government is so big and fragmented that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Laws overlap and conflict all the time; the policies of three-letter agencies are not even laws but are enforced as such.
In my state gay sex - the "detestable crime against nature" - carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison. This law is still on the books. Also, gay marriage is legal.

I highly recommend reading Kafka's two great works of art. 'The Castle' and 'The Trial'.
He forewarned us all of a future that would be hard to change, to challenge, simply because it made no sense at all. It's very difficult to fight an enemy that you can't understand or define.

The larger the organization, the more inefficient it gets. Like how you join a startup and it goes from nothing to $50m a year in revenue in just 4 years. But then you start slapping MBA grads and other “managers” on, whose sole job is to oversee work done by others, and unsurprisingly the growth rate suffers. It’s valid to say “well you can’t just have a company of engineers, you need someone who can think strategically”, and that’s true. But it’s still bringing in a bunch of people whose interests compete with each other, and sometimes even are in conflict with one another.

The Castle is utterly brilliant and probably the most prophetic book ever written about the modern world. Even more accurate than 1984. Government is too big, disorganized, and pulled in too many directions to be as intentionally evil as it was in 1984. And the same could be said for big corporations. Once you get to a certain size, you exist on inertia and slow random decay until someone comes along and wipes you out.
And @notabene you're right about the law. One only has to contemplate that in a country that has a Bill of Rights that guarantees the right to assembly, we have anti-loitering laws. Loitering is not trespassing. It's literally spending too much idle time in a public place that has no restrictions otherwise. And why is it a law? Because it basically allows cops to break up any assembly of "suspicious characters" that they want, whether it's a homeless person, minorities, or even just a group of teenagers on a Friday night.

I could go on. This is just state laws, when you mix in town and federal laws the average citizen cannot possibly follow them all, nor should he even try. If you can gauge a country's morality "by the number of its laws", we're a "wretched hive of scum and villany".

Another good book I've been reading is "Three Felonies a Day". The idea is that everyone, doing normal activities, is a felon, and the law is like that on purpose. Instead of trying to enforce the law, prosecutors choose targets and then uses the law to go after them, charging the poor victim with 50 crimes, knowing maybe one of them will stick. Ruins lives. Most accept a plea bargain. Dangerous precedent, very tyrannical.
The solution is probably going back to common law, which will take the dismantling of the entire "justice" system. I fear for our next generation - God's wrath will not sleep forever.

I think a lot of people are getting a red pill about the system by watching them go after Donald Trump. Hillary Clinton stores a bunch of files that she wasn’t even supposed to have legal access to on an unsecured server and sends them out via email, the story is how the media shouldn’t have even covered it. Trump takes documents possessed from his presidency, tells the government exactly where they are, secures them properly, and declassifies them, and he’s under trial. If that doesn’t make it clear that the law is designed to target people, I don’t know what does

Perfect example. I'm no Trump fanatic, but it's very clear how he was targeted. But he's rich and can fend off the system with his own army of lawyers and political ties. The average person loses his career and all his assets just trying to prove his innocence.
If the feds merely accuse you of certain federal crimes like "misprision of a felony" they can legally seize your stuff and raid your home and freeze your bank account. This tends to make it hard to pay a lawyer to defend you.

I don't know the full story, but even if I read the article I have a feeling that they're leaving-out a FUCK-TON of information.
Like, for instance, if she'd bragged on social media that she was going to go meet up with her hooker friends in the US and go hooking all over the place, complete with links to her OF... yeah, it's possible that might have raised a few suspicions. Increasingly, visa officers are checking people's social media; Israeli immigration officials have been doing that for years to see if you're friends with anyone displaying prominent "DEATH TO ISRAEL/HITLER WAS RIGHT" stuff.
The U.S. doesn't have a "working holiday" visa like some countries do, so a lot of people may erroneously think it's possible to go there on holiday and earn quick cash on the side.
Again, I don't know what happened, but the above sounds like a realistic scenario.
