Meh. I've owned 3 cycles, a cafe, a ninja, and a hyabusa. Fun times. Oh I learned on an old school triumph. Learn to do maintenance yourself on a throw away. Buy all the protection, leathers, Kevlar, helmet, use them. Don't go out in dangerous weather. Own a car for real transport and safety. Don't lend it out. Put insurance on it. Don't do crazy tricks. No suicide clutch/jockey. Join a casual tour club to get good advice. Don't race. Don't push yourself to take dangerous risks. Don't believe you're immortal. Watch plenty of videos about how fucked up a minor unstick can make you.
Or just don't get one if you have any dependents.
Up to you man. Lots of fun but those days are behind me for very good reason, "and I was responsible compared to my friends". Survivability is shit. Weather conditions are 10x as affective as in a car. Just, do your research please.

Stop looking for validation. Do what the fuck you want.

I'm not looking. I just am about to make a decision and I never had the freedom to decide something like this big before. I just turned 21. And every major decision Im second guessing. Just checking the internet collective for other people's thoughts on the matter

You should get one. Pure enjoyment. A 250 is excellent to learn on.

A 2011 Accord is a great car for managing your finances while you're going back to school.
A 250cc Ninja is a great motorcycle for learning to be an organ donor or skin graft recipient.
Your choice.
Basically, motorcycles are fucking dangerous. I'd love to have one too, but I have too many VERY EXPERIENCED friends who have gotten fucked up riding their bikes.

Dam. I work part time at the hospital and see slot of permanently disabled guys from motorcycle accidents, I always think that will never happen to me but the wording on your post is really giving me some second thoughts. Thanks for the honest reply.

Having owned 35 motorcycles and, worked in Voc Rehab with a number of survivors (motorcycles always lose), I would recommend that you do the research into the survivability in MC related accidents and then make a decision. My neighbor's sister was stopped at a stoplight, wearing a full face helmet, and full on Field Shear armor, and got slammed into by a 27 year old woman texting. 6 weeks in the hospital, TBI (her face is crooked) and a lifetime of chronic pain ahead of her. That's when I got rid of my last bike. I'm scared of people with cell phones. On the other hand, I went the entire time riding without a major accident and figured that my luck was running out. Tough choice, brother. It's always the other guy that's out to get you.

You'll get bored with a 250 pretty quick. Start on a 600.

I am pro motorcycle but the drivers in Florida are fucking terrible and there are not really any curves anyway. That said if you really want a bike, get the best gear, wear hi visibility colors, never ride without a helmet, and take the safety classes. This has nothing to do with red pill.

I dunno man too much can go wrong and it's entirely out of your control.
All it takes is one bad driver texting and sneezing and you're fucked.
There's too much in life to put on the line just to ride a bike. I'm sure its fun, and amazing, but to me the reward does not outweigh the risk.

If you do, get a twin engine and preferably something not crotch rockety.
I bought a kawasaki 650r when I was 26... 10 years ago. I still have it and I still maintain and ride it. It's not a crotch rocket but a sport tourer. It's comfortable and fun. I wish I had gotten a triumph Bonneville... better styling, classic look and still fun. That or a sportster.
Don't be a jackass and get an R6 and then low side it because you're an idiot... or worse: hi side it.
Go to the MSF course... lots of good info and theory and practice.
