I rarely downvote I think it discourages open discourse. I’ll only downvote if I think it’s generally bad advice and or doesn’t answer OPs question. I see a lot of people comment irrelevant tangents humblebragging or an answer that would make the problem worse.

I only downvote when:

1. They are trying to humblebrag

2. PUA bullshit

3. They ask a question the sidebar answered

4. They bitch about someone downvoting them

When their post is so stupid that even bothering to engage with them via text comment is a waste of my time.

Ok, here is a list of reasons why I might downvote a post;

1. Clearly bad faith
2. Humblebragging
3. Obviously fictional
4. Obnoxious towards other forum members
5. Threatens other users
6. Unintelligible (poor Engrish is ok, but it has to be decipherable)
7. Irrelevant (guy is in the wrong forum)
8. Obsessionally repetitive (same post over and over)
9. Rereg

Here is a list of reasons why I would NOT downvote;

1. Being wrong (tell them why you think they are wrong)
2. Joins a thread halfway through but is not OP (public forum!)
3. Comments on an old thread (he must be doing his research and reading through the historical posts, which is ok)
4. Is having a light hearted joke

Was asked to repost my reply in a recent, similar thread. But I thought it was a bit long, so here's the shortened version, which is basically the gist of it:

If you're both ignorant and arrogant, I'll downvote you.

If you're deservedly arrogant, then fine.

If you're just ignorant, but humble about it, then fine.

But if you come in here, hat in hand, demanding stuff, stirring up shit, basically acting like a defective woman, have a downvote, and GTFO.

1. Promotes BP/beta thinking or wrong answer to a question. Haven't unplugged but thinks he can get BP goal with RP tools, lack of understanding of m-f dynamics, clearly haven't read or skimmed the sidebar.

2. Zero value post/comment. "Women are whores"-type of posts that consists of nothing but calling women different variation of "slut"but contain no real lessons.

3. Blackpill posts of "all is lost"-type most often a combination of "usa bad and/or women bad just give up already". First of all blackpill has no place in a mans mindset, secondly if we assume this is a culture war and exposing real m-f dynamics is a part of that war - we are clearly winning the "info about m-f dynamics" battle. In fact we're winning so well that it has detrimental effect.

4. Wall of text with no punctuation, no capital letters and no paragraphs. If you can be bothered to type 500 words, you can be bothered to type press the dot and Enter key 10 times. Most often its zero value post too.

What I DO downvote:

1. SHIT ALREADY COVERED BY THE SIDEBAR
2. Shameless (or otherwise) humble brags
3. The same questions from the same user
4. A different version of someone else's same question in the past few days to a week
5. Incomprehensible garbage
6. Possible trolling that I otherwise can't remove
7. Hostile posts (to community/TRP)
8. Blue-pilled garbage
9. Poorly thought out ideas
10. Refusing to take advice previously given
11. By accident (as rare as that is)

What I don't downvote:

1. Mere difference in opinion/experience
2. Genuine struggles and hardships
3. Honest misinterpretation of RP material
4. Reasonable clarification-seeking posts
5. Multi-faceted series of posts that span across several updates or improvements over time
6. Not native English
7. Users that really need some more frequent than normal help for understandable reasons
8. Brand new regs without alts making a mistake
9. Bad post/comment but nuanced topic
10. Feeling too kind to downvote a particular post
