do you think that starting a youtube channel, a twitch stream, an instagram page and so forth is still a viable business in 2024, or has that ship sailed already?
like everybody else, i've been doing the 9 to 5 all my life and saw that as the only way to put food on the table. i've been on youtube since 2007 and i saw it work out for a lot of people. even one of my high school classmates has started a channel and is making bank doing prank videos, and another classmate's started this bogus dropshipping business (as is the trend) and will soon be able to quit his regular job. personally i always chalked it up to survivorship bias, that 99% fail doing that and thought that i'd never make it.
however, the closer i get to age of 30, the more i realize that i won't be able to hack it as a wagie and keep my sanity or avoid tying the noose. do any of guys make money off the internet?

you'll go broke if you try to sell your soul for Instagram faggot fame.
There are many ways to make money remote, given that you have the necessary skills.
However, I think social media is not a good way for men to make money. Unless you are gay and you're willing to suck dick live on camera. Social media is literally Black Mirror. You will end up investing so much more money than you'll ever make in the first 3 to 5 years.
Such amount of years could be better invested in another skill that can bring you more money or much faster.
Also, in the real world, every job sucks. Eventually. Why? Because there are people in it. And people fucking suck. So deal with it and make a long term plan (investing, ETFs) so that you might retire on an amount that would at least let you live your life in peace and not at 70.
Try to maximize the amount of money that you can earn while you're still young. Down the road, when you are older or you have a family, it will be so much harder to do all of these.
Also, get some hobbies that you like. Many times, the lustful desire to earn as much as possible as quickly as possible denotes something that you don't like/hate about your life. Try to have better/new relationships with people and hangout with them.

It's really about opportunity. You could start an amazon delivery partner thing and make money but only if they need it in your area and you happen to have the $30k. Or maybe you live where I do and there is a need for a gun shop and bike shop but maybe the bike shop won't do so well because people buy them from walmart.
As far as making video content, I'd say it's oversaturated but all you can do is start making videos and see if people like them.

Sure it's viable, if you're willing to sell your soul.
If not, you'd be better off investing in new technology that the major corps haven't totally taken control of yet. Virtual reality, artificial intelligence, etc.

What do you mean with selling your soul?

Social media algorithms are designed to promote content that exhibit qualities the owners deem "worthy." And you have to shell out money to push your content. So if you're willing to be a dancing monkey, then by all means, go for it.

You're looking for the easy route. Unless you're a young woman with an OF, social media is NOT a viable business unless you're building your own platform that can out-compete with what's already out there. Online is oversaturated. Do something useful, something that you could do even during a zombie apocalypse, or in the aftermath of a nuclear war.

The last sentence is a bit extreme; car sales are out the window, AC repair is out the window, engineer is out the window. Almost all of our jobs would be gone in an apocalypse.

People here will tell you no, and personally I obviously haven’t done it myself, but I will say that if you want to succeed then do something that you truly like. If you don’t like being a twitch streamer but you do it for money, then if you don’t get returns quickly then you will likely quit and never want to try with things that you actually do like.
There’s a YouTuber I watch who says he was on YouTube for 17 years I think before he went viral. If you do it long enough then you have a higher chance of succeeding. If it’s something you like doing, you will want to do it even if you aren’t succeeding and eventually you may succeed, but if you don’t you won’t care because it’s a hobby of yours.
Also, people who do things they hate and who happen to succeed end up miserable anyway. In their case, they were just wanting money, and once they got it they get tired of doing what they did to do it (it becomes a job, and on top of that you need a business sense to keep it going if you’re not excited about it - you don’t have a boss giving a schedule).
I hope this helps.

Instead of flitting from job to job, address the source of your discontent. Every job, including content creator, has its downsides.
What is it you hate about your current job? Are you sure being a YouTuber or whatever would eliminate those things?
Example: if you hate deadlines, you'll never make decent money at YouTube if it's true that to stay monetized, you have to put out new content consistently.
Example: if you hate interacting with coworkers and customers, you'll hate interacting with commenters and viewers on YouTube.
I've changed careers a few times. I love my current career (union skilled tradesman). I have a lot more freedom to change job assignments than I've ever had in any other line of work, and it pays well. There are downsides just like in anything else, but they are outweighed by things I like.

Youtube: yes if you have a great angle and TV charisma. Years of hard work, but it can still be done.
Insta: I doubt it for most men.
Twitch: Again it's hard for most men. Without tits you need to have either amazing charisma, be outstanding at video games plus some charisma, or have a unique technical angle.
Well yeah. Most will fail at these things because most people are not top 0.001% and the top 0.001% are all that the algorithm is interested in.
However...... it can be done. Find a unique angle, get great at it, work hard. Youtube especially rewards personality and you don't need tits to do it.
Not yet, but thinking of trying it.

I’ve seen some unattractive men become successful at Instagram. They usually do comedy though.
