On the one hand, at least you're not telling them to get a cat. I like cats. They're good people. They don't deserve that kind of train wreck in their lives.
'Course, I like dogs too, and they don't deserve that shit either.
Maybe just get a stuffed animal. Lotso doesn't deserve that shit anymore than the dogs and cats do, but Lotso's an asshole.

Minor disagreement.
Lots of cats need homes. I wish I could get a second cat (and still considering it) but I have a trauma rescue cat and she is nervous about any other cat in the home (she worries her status is threatened). They're amazing "people" and yeah, if a home with an inspin is available, it's better than one of them being put down.

Fair point. Loathe as I am to say it, probably better they get a cat than a dog. The latter generally comes with a lot more responsibility for properly exercising and socializing the animal; cats need some of that too, of course, but not nearly so much as dogs do, IME.
Granted, I'm used to larger/working breeds. I don't even know what the hell I'd do with one of the little house breeds.

Pets can be a fine addition to a family or to your life in general. But they should not be used as a substitution for any human relationship. This is the case for many people, especially women, who either get pets as a means to cope with their inability to get a romantic relationship or as a substitution for children (regardless of relationship status). An important question to ask yourself before you get a pet is are you getting one for the right reasons. Are you trying to fill a void that should have been covered by a real human relationship? Are you able to get contentment in your life if you do not have a pet to fill said void?
One note I should make is that I have noticed that the stereotype of the cat lady has an alternate form for women who choose to own a dog instead. They may call themselves "dog moms" or call their dogs "furbabies" (though that can apply to cats too), which shows that the craziness is not limited to women who have cats as pets. My speculation on the rise in dog ownership among the type of woman who might otherwise be consider a "crazy cat lady" if it was a cat instead of a dog is that dogs are generally more needy than cats. This neediness triggers the maternal instincts these women would otherwise get from being mothers to their own children, but whether they are spinsters (inspin or otherwise) or women who are a part of those that consider themselves "childfree" (a silly notion if they decide to get a pet whom they treat as children), these women are able to fulfill that biological itch better with a dog than a cat. A cat has needs too, of course, but they are far less constant maintenance to take care of. For example, if you put out enough food and water as well as a clean litter box, you can leave a cat alone in the home for a weekend without having to worry about the state of the cat. You cannot do the same thing with a dog, as they require daily feeding (a dog will eat everything in sight rather than space it out like a cat would) and trips outside for bathroom breaks. Dogs are also generally more directly social, while cats can vary with how social they can be.
Whether or not a woman has a dog or a cat, be on the watch for her mannerisms and attitude for the pet. It is not a guarantee that she has these sorts of issues, but it does mean you should be on alert for any potential issues. But neither of these compare to horse girls. Just stay away from those entirely.
