What does a 30 year old guy have in common with a 23 year old woman? All too often dating "mileage". In fact she's likely got more experiences and good experiences in that department. And if she is one of the rare mature for her age, they have a hell of a lot more in common than you'd think.

Yep. The years from puberty to 22-23 are brutal for any young man unless he's either a "natural" (which is genetic), or is above-average in looks and makes it into the "Cool Kids Club." The only other way is to be one of those very rare guys who meets the love of his life when they're children and stays together for life.
Meanwhile, any girl who takes even moderate care of herself can spend those years getting more attention from the opposite sex than any man who's not a literal rock star or action movie hero. That's her primary window of opportunity, and if she misses it, it will begin the shut. The day she graduates from college it immediately gets much smaller. Every year after that it narrows a bit more, and the day she turns 30 it closes a lot more (Articles have been written about the massive drop in quality matches that women get with dating apps and online matchmaking services when their age switches from 29 to 30.)
Now compare those two trajectories: a man who spent those years grinding away in the desert suddenly finds himself the object of desire of the very kind of women who never gave him a second glance... and those women are the younger sisters of the women his own age, who also begin to express interest because they wish to "settle down" now that they've had their fun.
What a dilemma, right? A guy like that can have a parade of young hotties who want to have fun with him, or pair off with some older gal who had her fun with other guys and is ready for him to slip his head into the yoke and start pulling the plow for her. Tough choice.
Or she could have done what women like my wife, her eldest sister, and a couple of our neices did. They each picked one quality man when they were in the 18-20 range and went all-in when they had the most to offer. My own parents were 7 years apart. Mom was 2 weeks before her 22nd birthday on her wedding day. Dad had done 2 years in the Army, then 4 years of engineering college, then a bit over a year working. Mom had finished teacher's college, too, and then did a year student teaching. They moved to a new town almost immediately, and both got jobs. Mom got pregnant with me at 24, dad was 31. My two sibs followed. We moved around a lot, as dad took better and better engineering jobs. Mom taught only until I was born, then returned to it when her youngest was old enough. They retired in 1999, dad was 65, mom 58. They were married till mom died, at 77, so 56 years. Dad lived 3 years more, missing her every day. I could not have asked for better parents, selfless to the very last.
But these cows would not have it, my mom apparently was too young to decide for herself.

Your parents enjoyed what I would refer to as the golden age of women's equality/chivalry: Women still had educational opportunities but with men getting just that much more, they could engage in that hypergamy if they utilized that power intelligently. She met your father probably not while he was at the finish line, but still doing well in the race, and locked in while she was at maximum value. She probably also knew to put effort into the relationship from the beginning rather than just throwing him demands.
Women even back in the 1950's were starting to get entitlement attitudes and each year it got increasingly worse and with full fledged victim-feminism kicking off in the 1960's, that's all she wrote as things just degenerated year-by-year. All the while, the real problems are being masked. The reason why we are living in a Femocracy are varied and complex. The chief reason is that there are enough females that are willing to be 'single issue' voters. That is, they are willing to vote for any party at all as long as they are convinced that they are 'pro woman' . Farmers are another example of single issue voters, which is why they have disproportionate representation. But there aren't that many farmers, so its not a huge deal.
The reason why single issue women voters is a huge deal? Because 50% of the population is female, and if enough of them are single issue voters, its enough to tip the balance so that you end up with a Femocracy. This is what has happened in the all modern western democracies.
the result is that we end up with political parties that are terrified of touching the skewed divorce settlements that favour women, or the fact that women get away with murder (sometimes literally) in the legal system or have enjoy open discrimination which is expressly forbidden by the constitution (enjoying asymmetrical retirement benefits for example).

Also, by the time a woman is 23, it’s likely that she has had around a decade of dealing with men (if she is attractive). Boys go crazy once the girls hit puberty. A lot of 7’s in high school get treated like royalty as a result.
A 30 year old man has likely dealt primarily in rejection. Many men don’t even start dating until their early 20’s. I didn’t until I was 24.
So, in many cases, the woman still has more experience than the man. Even with a 7 year age gap.
