It always floors me whenever women talk about "standards" and not wanting to lower them. As if they've actually put a great deal of rational and logical thought into the matter and have some kind of list of "standards." They try to make it sound like they're engineers overseeing a construction project.

Jane does not like Ted enough to lower her car to make the sale. Chad sees Jane's car and says "Sweet car, I want to rent it for some off roading". Jane likes Chad enough to let him rent the car. When Chad returns the car, it is in worse condition, but Jane doesn't lower the price.

Jane, getting desperate to sell her car, calls Ted and asks if he is still interested. Ted declines - he has found a comparable car for a lower price. Jane, panicked, asks other people selling cars for advice. Scott, Leroy, and Manuel all say "it's an old car with a lot of wear. Lower the price and you'll find a buyer." Jane, dissatisfied with that answer, asks Stephanie, Claire, and Donna who all say "raise the price of the car, because you should have high standards."

You can tell what has happened to this chick. The world hasn't changed, she has simply gotten older.
